We know Fruehauf tippers are the best but don't just take our word for it. Here is what just a few of our many satisfied customers have to say about them:

With daily runs to Kent and continuous collections and deliveries to farms across the country from his Somerset base, nothing does it better than a Fruehauf tipper for John Budge Haulage.
“I used to deal with the old Crane Fruehauf company and their units were always the best. So I was happy to place an order with the new organisation and am pleased with my new tipper.”

Scotland’s premier dangerous goods and bulk spirits haulier, McPherson Limited, became one of the biggest operators of all types of trailers north of the border when it took on the former Allied Distillers fleet in 2006. When they needed to buy a batch of tippers, Fleet Engineer Ian Jamieson went to the CV Show to see what was on offer and spotted the Fruehauf Smoothsider.
“I have first hand experience of Fruehauf’s renowned chassis quality but what really impressed me at the Show was the structure and finish of their planker body. This is a key factor for us, as image and robustness are very important when working in the whisky industry.
“There is always a danger that what you see exhibited at a Show is not what you get straight off the production line. But I can honestly say that I have not been disappointed by the trailers that we received late last year.”
Ian Jamieson
Fleet Engineering Director, McPherson Limited

J&J Ward and its sister companies together haul over 2 million tonnes each year in their fleet of tippers. This includes potash and road salt for Cleveland Potash and coke for Corus. They operate from the North of Scotland to Cornwall.
“In recent years we have been buying our tippers from Crane Fruehauf but when we needed another 6 our first concern was whether the quality from the new Fruehauf would be as good as the old one.
“We did some checking of our own and received the right assurances from the new company, so placed the orders at the end of 2006. When the first one arrived I was thrilled to find that it was not only better that the old CF trailers but better turned out than any other tipper I’ve seen in my career. A real credit to the company.”

South Yorkshire based John Owen (Aggregates) Ltd are a major supplier of Primary, Secondary, Decorative and Recycled aggregates, and operate a fleet of 50 tippers. They have recently taken delivery of their first Fruehauf insulated aggregate rigid body on a DAF 8x4.
“We chose the Fruehauf because of its weight and attractive price. So far that decision has been vindicated, as the drivers love its ease of operation and cleaning, whilst my accountant loves the return we get due to its higher payload. We will certainly be buying more Fruehauf’s in the future.”

LJS Transport operates 4 tippers from his base in Settle, North Yorkshire, with over 90% of his work being in aggregates coming out of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. However, occasionally they do work for the agricultural sector such as beet or brewers grain.
“With an aggregate tipper you are restricted to lower volume ‘heavy’ loads and ‘cube out’ before you ‘weigh out’ if carrying most agricultural products. But with bulkers you can carry a little or a lot, so it’s a much more versatile piece of kit.
“ I chose the Fruehauf bathtub bulker because its unique design gives the strength I need for a light weight. Other manufacturers have tried to copy it, but none seem to have matched Fruehauf’s quality and design benefits.”
Lee Staveley
Owner, LJS Transport

Ordering their first Smoothsider was the unique way that AE Gough & Sons celebrated 80 years in business last year. Operating 12 tippers and 2 8 wheel rigids from their Mid Wales base, the family owned business thought the better aerodynamics might help to make a difference in fuel economy. After 6 months of operation they still weren’t able to quantify a difference, but other benefits have resulted in them taking another three!
“Real fuel savings are hard to quantify when we might get 7 miles per gallon hauling rape meal to and from Kent, but only 5 mpg when operating locally in the hills of Mid Wales. However, the squarer body of the Planker gives better load capacity which means we are able to go for a lower overall height, making loading easier. It also allows us to display our livery on the side of the vehicles and project an improved image.”
Michael Gough
Director, AE Gough & Sons
“We have run Fruehauf bathtubs as our tipper of choice for many years due to its excellent resale value and unrivalled durability. It has been the Rolls Royce of tipping trailers, and we believe the Smoothsider will turn out to be a worthy successor.”
Simon Gough
Director, AE Gough & Sons

Based in Stonehouse near Glasgow, WM Hamilton & Sons Ltd operate 28 tippers including 17 artics, all of which are Fruehaufs.
“The Fruehauf tipper has always been both durable and lightweight, and the doghouse ram design makes it the most stable on the market. We don’t have the luxury of always operating on a nice tarmac surface, so good stability is extremely high on our list of priorities.”
David Hamilton
Managing Director, WM Hamilton & Sons Ltd

WJ Skipper Haulage Ltd have been in business for over 50 years, operating a fleet of 9 tippers plus a number of sub-contractors. Their core business is in aggregates, ash, coal and some agricultural work.
“You can’t beat a Fruehauf for weight and we like the ease of disposal and higher value given for a Fruehauf when we come to sell the trailer.”

Director, WJ Skipper Haulage Ltd

T Baden Hardstaff Ltd has been using Fruehauf bathtub design tipper trailers since 1985, in the main on bulk aggregate movements.
“We have always found them to be very robust, durable workhorses, with very low tare weights giving good payload capability. The high build quality coupled with excellent residual values makes them ideal.
“In terms of maintenance, we have found our particular specification trailer to be low maintenance and very reliable.
“Initial purchase prices have always been competitive and Fruehauf’s professional sales team support the product from sale, through production in service.
“With vehicle and driver safety being a key issue, the proven stability we have found with Fruehauf is yet another major benefit.
“Overall, Fruehauf trailers make good business sense for Hardstaff”.

Simon Distribution hauls petroleum coke, one of the most abrasive materials around. Fiercely proud of its corporate image, its tipping trailers must not only be very durable, they must also stay looking good despite the rough treatment they get.
“Petroleum coke has a very high wear factor which in the past meant our trailers required frequent major refurbishment”, says Fleet Engineer Les Sadler. “After talking to Fruehauf they came up with a specification for their smoothsider which matched our requirements perfectly. Using special strength aluminium they have managed to help us minimise wear while still maintaining a superb image. The nine trailers we have bought have been further customised to suit our operation. To protect our drivers they are fitted with Dawbarn auto-sheeting and automatic doors, both of which are operated remotely from the cab.
“Not only did Fruehauf more than meet our expectations they were also very competitive on price. This and the fact that they are British built and manufactured to a very high standard make Fruehauf trailers very appealing indeed.”
Les Sadler, Fleet Engineer, Simon Distribution, Immingham

Excellent quality, first rate after sales service and high residual values are just a few of the reasons why Chester-based Pemberton Transport has chosen to standardise on Fruehauf semi-trailers. But there are many more according to managing director Tom Pemberton:
“Fruehauf has got it bang on when it comes to the balance between weight and strength. The chassis and body are well constructed and very strong, yet payload capability is excellent. We currently run a fleet of 18 trailers, 16 of which are Fruehauf bath tubs but our aim is to have an all Fruehauf fleet. We mostly carry aggregate and animal feed and have no complaints at all with the performance of the Fruehauf trailers. The seam welding is perfect, the attention to detail impressive and the overall build quality is second to none.
“Best of all the after sales service is the best around and second hand values are well above those of Fruehauf’s competitors.”

When Oakbank Services needed ten tipping semi-trailers in a hurry, its first port of call was Fruehauf. And the Dumfries-based waste disposal specialist was delighted with Fruehauf’s positive and rapid response, as Services Manager Andrew McNish explains:
“Fruehauf’s well-proven bath-tub design has undoubtedly set the industry standard. The trailers are strong, lightweight and very reliable and the quality of the workmanship is superb - the uniform seam welding is immaculate and the overall finish is excellent.
“If it is possible, the legendary quality has been even further improved since production moved to Grantham.
“Fruehauf uses only the best materials and components. The result is a very durable and long lasting product which enables us to maintain a high level of service for our customers.”

Sleaford-based distribution and storage specialist M C Mountain & Son operates six Fruehauf tippers and has more on order. Director Nick Mountain explains why:
“We have opted to purchase Fruehauf because of their high build quality, good residual values and the quality extras fitted such as universal doors.
“We have a strict health and policy, so choosing the correct product for all aspects of operational use is paramount.
“The attention to detail which Fruehauf devotes to our specific design requirements is excellent and an added bonus is the geographical location of its factory.
With an expanding fleet and growing reputation for quality, efficient service in an ever increasingly challenged industry, we need quality products to support our business.

Value for money, first class quality and prompt delivery times are just some of the reasons why Fruehauf tippers are the number one choice for Sandy McCracken and Sons.
“Fruehauf are top of the premiere league when it comes to tipping semi-trailers”, says managing director Sandy McCracken. “They are still far and away the best. As far as quality goes I would say they are in the same class as Mercedes and BMW. We carry a range of bulk goods including animal feed, compost, peat, stone and quarry products as well as decorative materials. Our Fruehauf trailers take it all in their stride no matter what we throw at them. The finish is superb, the attention to detail is excellent and they are very reliable, especially the electrics and suspension, which are usually the cause of most problems.
“On top of all this Fruehauf offer fast delivery and a back-up service which is second to none.”

Bulk Haulage contractor James Booth (Bolton) Ltd has been providing specialist transport services for nearly a century. And for the past four decades the company has been buying Fruehauf tipping trailers. Managing Director Barrie Booth explains why:
“Back in the sixties when we bought our first Fruehauf semi-trailer the lightweight, all welded, runnerless design was well ahead of its time. Although over the years its competitors have caught up to some degree, Fruehauf semi-trailers are still the best option as far as we are concerned.
“We haul a variety of bulk goods including coal, aggregates, salt and reclaimed materials which mean our trailers have to be strong, lightweight and very reliable and Fruehauf scores highly in all these respects.
“The build quality is superb. The well-made bodies have continuously welded seams and the chassis are built to be tough enough to take plenty of punishment.
Fruehauf tipping trailers help us live up to our motto of offering our customers “Cheerful Service”.
