Steel Rigids set for 2007 debut
Following its entry into the aluminium body market last year, Fruehauf have announced that it is to join the steel rigid body market too. As with their alloy body offer, steel bodies will be available ex stock on the promise of a 7 day turn-round. “We expect this to be particularly attractive to the vehicle dealer network who often end up not only having to bankroll the body and gear, but also having to wait for the privilege!” says David Stanley of Fruehauf.
Standard 15 cubic metre bodies will be available for 8x4 chassis in the first instance, with Edbro CX 15 front end rams and flip over sheets – the industry norm. Underfloor gears (to accommodate cranes) and 6x4 chassis-cabs will follow soon. Build to order will also be available but will generally entail longer lead times and increased cost.
All steel bodies will be manufactured from the hardest wearing and most impact resistant steels commercially available, and will feature clear sides and full length runners for good looks, simple signwriting, ease of discharge and maximum durability, all combined with a low weight. A 15 cubic metre body with 5mm floor and 3mm sides together with Edbro CX15 front end ram will tare out at less than 2,900kgs which in most cases should result in a 20 tonne payload.
Fruehauf will be showing a 15 cubic metre muckaway body mounted on an MAN at the CV and Tip-Ex07 shows, this being the first public viewing of this exciting new product
