Formula Fruehauf passes Commercial Motor time trial with flying colours!

On 17th June, Commercial Motor’s Commercial Manager Andy Salter visited Fruehauf’s Grantham factory to see if they really could fit a rigid body in under 2 hours. After interviewing joint Managing Directors Niall and Matthew Wordsworth about the idea behind the rapid build concept, Andy pressed the button to start his stop watch as the keys to a DAF eight wheeler chassis were handed over to the build team and the driver retired to the rest area.

Within 15 minutes the vehicle PTO is installed on the chassis, 20 minutes later the Hyva tipping gear is secured to its bracketry, and before an hour has passed the prepainted tipper body is being lowered into place. Another 10 minutes and the body is fitted to the rear bracketry and already it is obvious that the 2 hour target will be broken with ease. In fact, the vehicle is checked over and driven out of the workshop ready for the road in a remarkable 1 hour 39 minutes 44 seconds. As Andy remarked at the end of a job well done, “and they did it without breaking sweat”.
