Mx Weighers throw down the gauntlet

Following 2 years in field experience as well as extensive laboratory testing of both its own weigher systems and those of its main competitors, Mx Weighers have announced that it is offering operators the chance to buy an extended warranty, taking the total guarantee period to a ground breaking 5 Years. They do not believe that any other onboard weigher manufacturer either offers such a long guarantee, or could afford to do so, due to the inherent unreliability of other systems in the harsh environment of tipper operations.

The laboratory tests concentrated on both life cycle testing on the main components of loadcell based onboard weighing systems as well as weighing accuracy, particularly under differing temperatures. Mx use only high quality load cells sourced from premium manufacturers. When tested, they passed a 100 cycle environmental washdown test without failing, whilst those of a leading competitor failed after just 5 cycles! The Mx weigher is also accurate to between plus or minus 0.1 and 0.2%, which was 2.5 times better (i.e. more accurate) than a leading competitor system tested under the same conditions.

However, the biggest discrepancy between the Mx weigher and competitor systems occurred when the load cells were subjected to changes in ambient temperatures. Over a 30 degrees centigrade temperature range the Mx weigher varied by just 16 kgs, whilst that of a leading competitor varied by a massive 550 kgs! And at temperatures above 35 degrees, the potting compound of the competitor’s load cells broke down, ultimately resulting in the failure of the load cell!

Fruehauf Managing Director Matthew Wordsworth said “We know that others offered a 5 year warranty some time ago but withdrew it, due presumably to their lack of reliability over that length of time. However, operators need their weighers to work relatively trouble free over the life of the trailer, and the Mx weigher uniquely seems to offer that level of reliability.” 

The Mx weigher is offered exclusively on all Fruehauf tippers and comes with a standard ‘no quibble’ 12 month warranty. The cost of extending this to a 5 year warranty has been set at £500. “We think that this is a small price to pay for peace of mind on such a critical piece of equipment for most tipper operators” says Matthew.
